PETALING JAYA, Jan 19 2013 (Bernama) — Youths’ outspokenness on issues they are dissatisfied about carry no meaning if they are not registered as voters, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said these youths were mostly living in cities and big towns like Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kuching but they were not doing justice to themselves if they did not register as voters.
He said 52 per cent of the 15 million electorate in the country comprised youths which meant that they had immense clout to the determine the direction of the country.
“So, if young people are just very vocal but choose to not register as voters, its not going to translate much when the votes are counted,” he told a press conference after opening the Malaysian Youth Council’s (MBM) 61st annual general assembly here Saturday.
