THE Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has launched a programme to help youths affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Called Prokens, the initiative in collaboration with HSBC Bank Malaysia and supported by Youth and Sports Ministry, trains young people to be more marketable to employers.
It includes improving and developing their soft skills and digital competencies as well as providing career guidance, entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
HSBC Bank Malaysia chief executive Stuart Milne said the programme would help the young acquire new skills or refine existing ones to help them gain employment to sustain their livelihoods.
“We strongly believe that this initiative, which falls under our corporate sustainability pillar Future Skills which addresses employability, plays an important role in managing the impact of Covid-19 among youth.”
Milne said the bank was giving RM599,750 for the initiative.
The scholarship that covers the programme cost will be fully borne by MBM from contributions made by HSBC.
The trainers of the programme include experts in areas such as technology, motivational and guidance coaches, entrepreneurs, chief executive officers of SMEs and experienced youth leaders.
MBM president Jufitri Joha urged young people to apply for the programme.
Potential participants will be required to undergo an assessment to qualify.
The training programme is scheduled to run from September to November and includes four zones — Central Zone (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya), Southern Zone (Johor, Melaka and Negri Sembilan), Northern Zone (Kedah, Perlis, Penang and Perak) and Borneo Zone (Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak).
The programme will be extended to other states in the future. Registration deadline is Aug 28.
