Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) stands in solidarity with affected American minorities over the death of George Floyd. Several weeks ago, George Floyd, an African-American died while being arrested by police officers over suspicion of using a counterfeit bill. One of the police officers, Derek Chauvin, displayed excessive force by kneeling on George’s neck for almost 9 minutes, causing him to suffocate and die on the scene.
This, alongside many other instances of police brutality resulting in the deaths of many more people of color, consequently ignited a nationwide anger and an ongoing protest calling an end to police brutality and systematic racism. Malaysian Youth Council strongly oppose and will continue to remain intolerant towards any form of racism whatsoever and supports the call for justice over George Floyd’s death.
