The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) expresses our deepest sympathies and unwavering solidarity with the people of Myanmar and other neighboring countries affected by the recent catastrophic earthquake.
As fellow members of ASEAN, we reaffirm our commitment to assisting in any way possible whether through humanitarian aid, relief efforts, or collaborative initiatives with international and regional partners.
In this spirit, MBM commends the swift response of the Malaysian government in deploying the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) to the affected areas. An initial team of 10 personnel has been dispatched to Yangon to provide technical assistance and conduct on-site assessments. A second team of 40 members is scheduled to depart soon to address priority areas identified during the preliminary assessment.
Furthermore, MBM urges all Malaysians who may be affected or require assistance in the impacted regions to immediately reach out to the Malaysian Embassy and relevant authorities for support. Your safety is our utmost priority, and we stand ready to assist in any way possible.
We also call on Malaysian youth and ASEAN counterparts to come together in the spirit of unity and compassion. We encourage individuals, civil society organizations, and the private sector to coordinate efforts in mobilizing resources for relief and recovery initiatives.
We remain confident in the resilience of the affected communities and hope for a swift recovery and rebuilding process. The Malaysian Youth Council stands firm in our advocacy for humanitarian efforts and will continue to work closely with our regional partners to provide meaningful assistance.
