KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia June 23, 2025 — The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has voiced deep alarm over rising tensions in the Middle East, particularly the recent Israeli military strikes on Iranian targets, including three nuclear facilities, which the council warns could destabilize the region and threaten global peace.
In a statement released today, MBM President Mohd Izzat Afifi Hj Abdul Hamid labeled the strikes a “dangerous escalation” that violates international law, state sovereignty, and nonproliferation norms. The attacks, targeting critical infrastructure, risk catastrophic consequences and endanger millions, he said.
Aligning with the United Nations, Amnesty International, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the International Islamic Federation of Student Organizations (IIFSO), MBM condemned all acts of aggression and urged an immediate ceasefire. The council called for strict adherence to humanitarian laws and a return to diplomacy to resolve the conflict.
MBM also pressed the Malaysian government to leverage its role as ASEAN Chair and its positions in the UN and OIC to push for de-escalation, civilian protection, and accountability for international law violations. The council encouraged Malaysian youth, student groups, and civil society to advocate peacefully for justice and human dignity, particularly for those affected by the hostilities.
“Now more than ever, the youth must unite against violence and injustice, defending peace and the sanctity of human life,” Mohd Izzat said.
