MEMORANDUM

FROM
MALAYSIAN YOUTH

TO
UNITED NATION

Malaysian Youth Council (MBM), the main youth organisation in Malaysia, which comprises o f 39 youth organisations in Malaysia, is extremely disturbed with the latest development in Myanmar. The conflict that affect the people of Rohingya in Rakhine state has worsen than ever before since August 25th with more than 400 houses being burned down, children, women and elderly were killed, tortured and persecuted since the escalation of the conflict begun.

The failure of the Myanmar government to stop the atrocities may lead to genocide and its failure to stop the attack have started to create doubt amongst international community on the sincerity of Myanmar government under Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar in solving the conflict. To make things worse, the Myanmar government prohibited and forbade all access to Rakhine, and denied entry to all aids even from the United Nations.

International reports revealed that the crisis between Rohingya and Myanmar security forces is still on going. Persecution and killings still occurs in the State of Rakhine.

In light of the above mentioned statement, MBM therefore would like to urge and appeal to:

1) The United Nations to hold special session as soon as possible to discuss the best possible solution to solve this problem with the presence of Representative of Myanmar government and representative of the Rohingya people;

2) The United Nations to consider the need to send peace keeping mission into Arakan State;

3) The United Nations to demand Myanmar to open the Rakhine State and allow for humanitarian aid without any hindrances.

4) Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the State Counsellor of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi to be revoked due to her reluctant to cooperate with the international community in dealing with this conflict.

Malaysian is no longer able to tolerate with this humanitarian crisis. Non- interference principle is not applicable when it comes to grave humanitarian crisis such as what is happening in the State of Rakhine.

A bold change in approach is needed by United Nations and the international community if there is to be an end to the repetitive violence against the Rohingyas. Propaganda and incitement of hatred and violence, particularly against Rohingyas must be halted, discriminatory laws and policies must be removed and the recommendations by Kofi Annan’s commission must be implemented immediately.

MBM is urging international community especially youth to lend their support to the Rohingyas people and pray for the crisis to end as soon as possible so that the people of Rohingya will able to live a normal live free from conflict.

The world is waiting to see that UN Security Council has played its role to bring end to a humanitarian crisis and build peace in the region.

Sincerely,

Haji Mua’amar Ghadafi Jamal Datuk Wira Jamaludin
President
Malaysian Youth Council
