Greetings from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Please allow me to briefly introduce ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme, AYVP@AsiaEngage. It is a dedicated youth volunteerism platform, developed and implemented by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in partnership with the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture, ASEAN Secretariat and United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It aims to create and strengthen the ASEAN identity whilst collaboratively solving challenges faced by local communities.
This year will see AYVP running its 2nd programme, focusing on the thematic area of Protecting ASEAN’s Heritage, titled “The Development of ASEAN Youth Heritage Leaders through Volunteerism and Community Engagement”. The main aim of the project is to empower young people across ASEAN as Youth Heritage Leaders, providing them with the necessary skills and competencies to promote, protect and preserve the ASEAN Heritage.
The project will bring together 50 youth from the 10 ASEAN member states for five weeks. The volunteers will be participating in a preparatory phase which is 7-days of introduction and orientation in UKM, a 3-weeks volunteering and outreach period at two heritage sites in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur & Malacca) and 7-days of lessons learned, evaluation and celebration in UKM. The programme is jointly funded by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Malaysian Ministry of Culture & Tourism.
The volunteers will be divided into two groups and each site (Kuala Lumpur and Malacca) will host 25 volunteers for a total of three weeks. The programme will take place from 11th Aug – 15th Sept 2014.
