JAKARTA, July 18 (Bernama) -- Thousands of Indonesian youths from various political parties and civil societies are ready to join their fellow Asean brothers to pressure the Zionist regime to immediately cease its military aggression on Palestine and Lebanon. Indonesian United Development Party youth leader Khairul Irgan Mahfidz said many of the youth movements in Indonesia expressed their anger over Israeli inhumane acts since the start of bombings and rocket attacks. "We're ready to take our protest to a higher level and join hands with our Asean brothers to take whatever steps necessary as long as the Zionist regime stop its inhumane acts," he told Bernama Tuesday. Welcoming Malaysian Umno Youth statement that it would collaborate with its Asean counterparts to lead a movement to establish a network of international youth leaders to put up a strong voice condemning the Zionist aggression in Palestine, he said it was high time peace-loving youths of the world stand up and be counted. Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had said the movement would initiate unification of young leaders from the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Asean to galvanise their support. "An understanding among the youth leaders needs to be established particularly in championing international issues like the never-ending Israeli atrocities in Palestine," Hishammuddin told a media conference. Irgan said he would discuss the matter further with the umbrella body of the Indonesian youth movement, the "Kesatuan Nasional Pemuda Indonesia (KNPI)" to start the momentum among the hundreds of youth associations here to garner their full support for the idea. "I am sure millions of Indonesian youths, including the 750,000-odd in my association, have good ideas to contribute on how we could effectively work towards stopping the Israeli aggression. "We welcome further communication from Umno Youth," he added. -- BERNAMA |
